Background

1999 changed the bill for every employer.

Under the CNESST premium-rate reform, in force since January 1, 1999, an employer’s contribution rate depends on the number and severity of workplace accidents, much like a private insurance premium.

Classification, meanwhile, moved from a company’s economic activity to its employees’ tasks and their risks. More than 300 distinct units: a misclassification can happen, and it is expensive.
